The General Directorate of Civil Defense has created a
specialized team for mountain rescue, all members of this team are
distinguished with remarkable ability and high skill that enable them to deal
with cases of detention. A detailed plan has been prepared for the
implementation of scenarios to rescue the stranded and detained in places unreachable
through the conventional rescue mechanisms.
The head of the mountain rescue team, Major Saad al-Baqmi,
said that the cadres of the team master several ways of carrying the injured on
airlifted stretchers by ropes and pulleys. He pointed out that the geographical
nature of the Holy Sights contains several rugged mountainous areas frequented
by pilgrims, and some of them may be driven by curiosity to climb upward,
making them vulnerable to detention.
Al-Buqami explained that the Mountain Rescue Task Force will
be stationed in Jabal ar-Rahma (Mountain of Mercy) on the day of Arafa,
since it is the most frequented sight by the pilgrims., while in the rest
of the days the force would join the Emergency and Support force in full
readiness to manage any situation as needed.
For his part, Corporal Saeed Abdullah Abdulrahman Al Arfaj
said that all cadres and equipment of the Mountain Rescue Team are ready to
provide the best service to the pilgrims, adding that the trainings have
enhanced the team's experience in various aspects of mountain rescue..
